Students protest in Uri demanding strenuous punishment to Sumbal rape accused

Srinagar: School students in Boniyar, Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the rape of a minor girl in Sumbal.

Reports said that the students marched on the streets and demanded that strenuous punishment be given to the accused.

The rape incident has led to intense protests across Kashmir. People have demanded that the accused be hanged to death.

On Monday protesters clashed with government forces in Pattan area of Baramulla district leading to injuries to more than three dozen people including a policeman.

The state administration has said that the case will be handled on a fast track basis and has appealed the people to maintain calm.
