Not returning bodies of slain youth a sensitive issue: Geelani
Srinagar, June 5: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday said that people pursuing right to self-determination are facing “worst type of state sponsored terrorism”.
In a statement issued to GNS, Geelani while expressing his deep concern over “human rights violations” appealed UNO, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, International Red Cross and international organizations for human rights urged to take cognizance.
The statement said that a deputation called on Syed Ali Geelani and briefed him about the latest developments and grim situation people are facing in south Kashmir particularly in Shopian.
“During their interaction with incarcerated leader, the deputation said that authorities in state are denying returning the dead bodies of youth slain in Tangdar encounter,” the statement said adding that Geelani while expressing his deep concern and anguish said that it is very sensitive issue and a matter of concern for all.
“The youth were brutally massacred and buried in mysterious circumstances,” Geelani said adding, “We feel pain of separation and the demand is humanitarian, however while denying their burial as per religious rites is insensitive and callous.”
Hurriyat (G) chairman while lashing at authorities said that political detainees are subjected to vengeance and ill treatment. Referring to incarcerated leader Masarat Alam Bhat, Geelani condemned the slapping of 36th Public Safety Act (PSA) on him and said it is the “worst demonstration of political vendetta”.
Referring to prolonged and “unlawful” detention of Masarat Alam, Geelani said, “Alam is languishing in jail since long, however, it is quite disheartening that he is being subjected to vengeance by state authorities.”
He also expressed his dismay over prolonged and “unlawful” house detention of THJK chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and framing of “fake charges” against Syeda Asiya Andrabi.
“The freedom movement in state is in no way a crime, instead we are pursuing a fundamental right for all living within territory of Jammu & Kashmir and India has no option but to accept and allow people to decide their political destiny,” Geelani said. (GNS)
