Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Wednesday condemned the banning of government advertisement to Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Uzma newspapers.
“Condemn the media curbs extended to @kashmiruzma after @GreaterKashmir and @Kashmir_Reader instilling fear and intimidation of people from all segments of society is at full display,” Mirwaiz said in a tweet.
The government has also banned the government advertisement to another local daily Kashmir Reader.
After banning the government advertisement to Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Reader, the government on Tuesday without intimating the GK Communications also banned the advertisements to Greater Kashmir’s sister publication Kashmir Uzma.
On Tuesday, the Kashmir editors’ guild (KEG) has said that while it was expecting lifting of ban on government business to Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Reader newspapers, the government has added Kashmir Uzma to the list.
“The ban, as usual, is unexplained and implemented without conveying to the newspaper,” a KEG spokesperson said KEG.
