Massive throng at funeral of Al-Badr commander, Zeenat’s father ‘proud’ of his son
Shopian: Amid severe restrictions, scores of people trooped to the native village of top Al-Badr commander Zeenat-ul-Islam on Sunday to attend his funeral.
Zeenat’s father Ghulam Hassan Shah while adddressing the gathering of mourners asked people not to weep over the death of his son describing it as a “proud moment” for him. To this, people cheered and chanted slogans “Shah Shah Zeen Shah”.
Meanwhile, two militants including Rubaan of Nazneenpora and his associate appeared at the funeral and offered gun salute to their commander. In fact, Zeenat was known for appearing at funerals of slain militants to offer gun salute.
At Chilipora in Shopian, clashes between forces and youth erupted around the house of slain militant Sajad Ahamd Dar. Forces fired live ammunition and teargas to break up protesters.
Early morning, five civilians were injured with bullets and pellets during clashes around Zeenat’s native village Sugan in Shopian. Later, two more civilian were hit by pellet and were admitted to PHC Zainpora. However, one with pellet in left eye was reffered to Srinagar.
