Kashmir police chief visits Shopian, reviews security for Panchayat polls

The Inspector General of Police Kashmir SP Pani on Sunday visited south Kashmir’s Shopian district while holding a detailed security review meeting.

A police spokesperson said IGP Pani chaired the meeting of officers wherein he took a detailed review of security measures taken for upcoming Panchayat Elections in the district.

“IGP Kashmir stressed on the officers to ensure that the elections are held in a conducive atmosphere,” he said.

The visit of IGP Kashmir has come at a time when two youth were abducted and subsequently killed by suspected militants in this southern district of Kashmir.

On Saturday suspected militants killed one of the three abducted persons and set the other two free in Shopian district.

Later in the day, two more civilians were kidnapped in the district. However, they were released Saturday night.

Pertinently, suspected militants on Thursday evening abducted a class 11 student from Safanagari village of the district. Next day, his bullet-riddled body was found in Nikloora village of neighbouring Pulwama district.
