J&K Jails Celebrate International Yoga Day
Srinagar, Jun 21: 4th International Yoga Day was celebrated in all Jails of the State from Kathua to Kupwara on Thursday wherein the officers and staff of the Prison department, security staff of CRPF/armed police and the prisoners in large number participated.
The Yoga session started in the morning under the supervision of trained teachers from NGOs like Art of Living, Chetan Volunteers etc. who threw light on the importance of Yoga in our life and explained benefits of various Yoga Asanas for the body and mind of the practioner.
Prior to this, practice sessions of various Yoga Asanas were conducted in various Jails during the last couple of days where prisoners showed lot of interest and enthusiasm to participate in such a positive exercise and many of them showed keen interest in adopting Yoga as part of their daily discipline.
Jail Superintends of Central Jail Kotbhalwal and Central Jail Srinagar, District Jail Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Pulwama,Kupwara, Baramulla, Anantnag, Leh and Sub-Jail Hiranagar and Reasi participated alongwith their officers and staff and the Jail inmates.
Officers from CRPF/armed police deployed on Jail security duties also took part in the celebrations. At some places where Yoga teachers were not available, officials from CRPF and armed police led the Yoga sessions.
Here, at Central Jail Srinagar, Dilbag Singh IPS DGP Prisons and Shri Mohd Sultan Lone, DIG Prisons attended the Yoga session with the staff and inmates.
DGP Prisons also spoke to the Jail inmates about the tradition of Yoga in our country and its benefits for human body and fitness.
DGP conveyed his compliments for large scale participation of Jail officers/staff and inmates and the interest taken by the officers. (KNS)
