Jawahar Tunnel avalanche: Body of 10th policeman recovered
Srinagar, Feb 9 : The body of a policeman who went missing along with eleven other persons including nine cops in an avalanche on Thursday at Jawahar Tunnel along Srinagar-Jammu highway, was found on Saturday.
The rescuers comprising police, local volunteers and SDRF members besides government forces Saturday morning retrieved the body of the tenth policeman identified as Parvez Ahmad, a selection grade constable, of Ganderbal.
An avalanche struck the police post Jawahar Tunnel on Thursday evening. While the search teams started digging through police post buried under tonnes of snow, three policemen were found alive. They were immediately evacuated to the hospital. Seven bodies, five of them policemen, and two civilians accused were also recovered.
With the recovery of Parvez’s body, the overall death toll mounted to 8 including two civilians accused. (GNS)
