I will die by then: Patient with kidney infection, Doctors of a government hospital in Srinagar have scheduled the surgery of a patient with a kidney infection for November 2021

A resident of Rahmoo area of south Kashmir district Pulwama, Abdul Ahad Wani (50) said, “I am suffering from kidney infection. In 2012, I was first operated by a doctor at a private hospital in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district for which I paid Rs 30,000 but after sometime complications were developed in my kidney. I went to a government hospital in Pulwama who then referred me to Srinagar.”

He even pleaded with the doctors and informed them that he may not survive till then, but the doctors were resistant and said they can’t do anything in the matter as their dates are already booked.

“…I requested them I will die till my turn for surgery will come. y ther kidney will also get affected. Doctors said we can’t do anything, here dates are booked.”
The principal of Government Medical College Srinagar didn’t respond to calls despite repeated attempts for the comment about this case.

However, Medical Superintendent of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, Dr. Nazir Hussain Chowdhary said, “We have two types of surgeries, emergencies and regular, emergencies are being done fast. We have this problem that’s why the government has planned five new medical colleges to overcome this problem, for this particular case you should talk to HOD or principle of Government Medical College.”After consulting various doctors at several hospitals in Srinagar, I came to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital. From there finally, I was referred to Government Super Specialty Hospital Srinagar.”
In his complaint to Jammu and Kashmir Governor’s grievance cell in Srinagar, Abdul Ahad Wani said that he is a labourer by profession. Wani further added that he has till now he has spent a heavy amount on tests and doctors’ visits. He said, “I am very poor and I have four children. Only God knows how I have managed so far.”
Abdul Ahad Wani said that doctors at Government Super Specialty Hospital gave him a surgery date for November 4, 2021.

He elaborated, “I was shocked to see the operation date. When I argued with them it’s too far and I may not survive till then, they (doctors) said, “this hospital is not for you only or particular district residents, this hospital has to see patients from all parts of the state.”
