Geelani reiterates appeal for election boycott

Srinagar, Sep 4: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday reiterated his appeal to people to completely boycott the upcoming Panchayat and Municipal elections, and said the boycott is “the only and the last option to safeguard the movement for right to self-determination”.
“Election boycott is also a democratic right of any individual person,” he said in a statement issued to GNS.
Condemning the killing and CASOs, Geelani expressed deep concern over the military concentration around Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir.
He also paid rich tributes to Fayaz Ahmad Wani of Chewah Kalan Pulwama, a 22 year old civilian who was killed in a forces’ firing on Monday.
“Innocent people killed for demanding their right to self-determination can’t be justified in any way. It is a grave violation of human rights,” APHC (G) chairman said.
He said living under the shadow of a “war-like situation” has created panic and an agonized atmosphere in almost all the villages of south Kashmir. (GNS)
