Engineering students at Aryans group of colleges Chandigarh protest against fee hike

The engineering students of Aryans group of colleges in Chandigarh on Monday staged a protest against the college management for what they said overcharging of fee by the administration.

The protesting students said the semester fee was fixed as Rs 25000 for students falling under open merit category while as for reserved category the students were charged Rs 18000.

“But from this year (3rrd semester) college management has decided to charge Rs 35000 from general category and RS 25000 from category students,” the students said.

The college management, according to students, has decided to charge the ‘balance’ amount from first two semesters as well.

“We paid Rs 25000 and Rs 18000 for first two semesters but now they are asking us to clear the amount as per Rs 35000 and Rs 25000,” they said.

The students also alleged that the college management was forcing them to motivate students to get enrolled in the college. “We are not brokers. Why should we force any student to get enrolled here. But college management is forcing every student to get at least two new entrants for the college,” said a student who was part of the protest.

He said the students from other states are also protesting against the college management.

“Local police reached at the spot and resorted to cane charging on students including females,” he said.

A college official said the students have misunderstood the college decision for which the management is out to meet them.

“We didn’t force anyone to get new admissions. Management will meet the protesting students to resolve the matter,” the college official said.
