CASO sets off massive protest in south Kashmir’s Shopian, journalist injured

Shopian: A journalist was injured in violent protests in Meminder village of this south Kashmir district where government forces launched a search operation after a militant attack this afternoon.

Scores of people, mostly youth hit the streets in Meminder village here after army and special operations group (SOG) of police cordoned off the village after coming under a militant attack, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.

The protesters, witnesses said pelted rocks at the government forces to express their anger over the CASO. In retaliation, the government forces lobbed tear gas canisters and fired pellets.

In the ensuing clashes, a local journalist identified as Aijaz Dar was injured. He was removed to the nearby hospital for treatment.

“I produced my press identity cards and pleaded with the government forces but they didn’t listen. Instead, they showered pellets at me,” Dar told Kashmir Reader
