Authorities begin sanitation drive in shrines, masjids
Authorities have launched a special sanitation drive near shrines and masjids in summer capital for convenience of devotees during upcoming Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW).
Special teams have been directed to remain stationed in their respective areas to ensure lifting of accumulated garbage around shrines on daily basis.
Officials said main focus of the drive will be on historic Jamia Masjid at Nowhatta, Dargah Hazratbal. Besides sanitation drive will be undertaken around shrines of Dastageer Sahib (RA), Naqashband Sahib (RA), Khanqah-e-Moula, Makhdoom Sahib (RA) and Jenab Sahab Soura.
Thousands of devotees are expected to throng shines and Masjids on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) which falls on 21st November this year. The biggest congregation is expected at Dargah Hazratbal where devotees will have glimpse of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Devotees also observe night long prayers at various shrines and Masjids in Srinagar preceding night of the Milad
“All measures have been taken to ensure sanitation at important shrines and masjids including Jamia Masjid and Dargah Hazratbal. We have set up special teams whose job is to ensure sanitation at important shrines and masjids on daily basis,” said Ghulam Rasool, chief sanitation officer Srinagar Muncipal Corporation (SMC).
SMC commissioner, Peerzada Hafizullah, said that he has directed officials to install additional street lights at shrines and masjids.
Traffic police Srinagar has also framed route plan for 21st November. “We appeal devotees travelling in private vehicles to offer prayers at different shrines and Masjids in view of Milad celebrations or go for car pool to minimize traffic jams,” said SP Traffic City, Al Tahir Geelani.
