Authorities afraid of Masarat Aalam’s popularity, political sharpness: Muslim League : Condemns 37th PSA on incarcerated leader
Srinagar, Nov 14: Muslim League Jammu Kashmir has condemned the slapping of 37th Public Safety Act (PSA) on its incarcerated chairman Masarat Aalam Bhat and shifting him to Hiranagar Jail, Jammu.
A spokesperson of Muslim League Sajad Ayoubi in a statement issued to GNS said, “The court, while quashing the 35th PSA order against Masarat Aalam on 26 October 2017 had directed the authorities to release him immediately but instead of releasing him, he was rearrested in connection with a frivolous FIR of 2015 lodged against him in Handwara and was slapped 36th PSA which stands invalid now as it has expired as per duration. Now he was arrested again in connection with FIR lodged against him in Baramulla and slapped with 37 PSA.”
Ayoubi said all this is done as authorities are afraid of Masarat Aalam’s popularity and political sharpness.
Terming the 37th PSA on Aalam as “worst demonstration of political vendetta”, the spokesperson said, “Judiciary is not free from political influence and this is the reason that they feel helpless to act or take steps to check this.”
Ayoubi slammed police for disregarding and overlooking court orders and repeatedly slapping PSA on Masarat Aalam.
“The district administrations act as mere rubber stamps. Although it is within their jurisdiction to look and confirm the validity of grounds (of detention) but they follow police authorities and sign these dossiers without applying their wisdom,” he said in the statement.
“It is pity that despite being highly qualified, their conscience is dead and they just for the sake of privileges and service benefits ignore these unjust procedures against detainees,” the Muslim League spokesperson added.
He expressed solidarity and sympathy with the family of Masarat Aalam and said “it is the law of nature that sooner or later the tyrant and arrogant forces shall have to pay”. (GNS)
