Srinagar: Scores of residents of Mazhama village of Magam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district Monday held a protest against the scarcity of portable in the area.
Witnesses said scores of residents including women, angered by persistent water shortages, hit streets and blocked Srinagar-Gulmarg highway.
Chanting slogans against the PHE department the protestors said that they have been left to fetch for themselves in this bone-chilling cold. “We do not have adequate portable water facility and successive governments promised the same but never delivered on the promises.”
For days, they said, the area remains without portable water.
The protest left hundreds of vehicles stranded on the highway.
