Another Shopian student released after 10 days detention, misses 12th class exam
Srinagar, Nov 1: A 12th standard student from Shopian was on Thursday released ten days after his detention and consequently missed his two papers in the ongoing examination being conducted by the State Board of School education. The release follows a report carried by GNS regarding another student was detained in place of his brother in the southern Kashmir district.
Zeefam Fayaz son of Fayaz Ahmad Dar of Gund Darvish, Shopian missed two papers including Education and Environmental Science. Zeefam is a student of Government Higher Secondary School Munad, Kulgam.
Student’s father Fayaz Ahmad Dar told GNS that family approached the concerned police station with regard to release of Zeefam in wake of the exams of 12th class but their plea was plainly rejected.
Dar said that he showed roll number slip of JK BOSE and even offered police to detain him while his son appears in the examinations.
“Me and my father Ghulam Hassan Bhat (grandfather of Zeefam) separately offered police to keep us in custody till Zeefam completes his examination,” Dar said, adding, “We also approached the Deputy Commissioner Shopian and urged him to intervene so that Zeefam is released and his career is saved.” Despite the efforts of the deputy commissioner, he said, police refused to release him.
“Yesterday at around 10:30 p.m. we received a phone call from the police station, asking us to come today. When we approached the police station, the authorities asked us to take Zeefam home and he was finally released,” Dar said, adding that he missed exams of two subjects Education and Environmental Science. He also urged the authorities to arrange the fresh examination for the papers missed Zeefam so as to save his career.
Director of School Education, Kashmir Dr GN Ittoo said that he will take up the issue with deputy commissioner Shopian for the report. “If he has missed the exams due to the detention his examination of both the papers will be considered,” he added. (GNS)
