Air Traffic From Srinagar Airport Suspended Due To Snowfall
Air traffic was suspended from Srinagar International Airport and several flight were cancelled on Friday following heavy snowfall and poor visibility.
“Several incoming and outgoing flights from the Srinagar airport were suspended following fresh snowfall since Friday afternoon,” an official of the Airport told UNI.
However, he said morning flights operated normally from the only airport in Kashmir valley.
Passengers, who had reached airport from different parts of the valley, were waiting though a notice has been issued by the airport authority that there is no chance of operating any flight until weather improves.
Some passengers said that they were scheduled to appear in the interviews at New Delhi while others claimed they had appointment with doctors. A number of traders said passengers travelling from Srinagar airport face similar situation every winter and government has failed to address this issue.
A Met department spokesperson told UNI light to moderate rain and snow would occur during the next 72 hours at many places in Kashmir valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region. “The WD will remain active in the region till Monday. The weather will again turn dry from Tuesday onwards,” he added.
