22 pints collects as appeal to donate blood for injured Kulgam gets tremendous response
Srinagar, May 28 (GNS): An appeal to help a seriously injured youth from Kulgam received an incredible response with at least 22 pints collected on Wednesday even as more than 200 people turned out to help.
Highly reliable sources told GNS 22 pints of blood were donated by youth for the injured Kulgam youth, Yawar Ahmad Lone (18), at SMHS.
They said that people from different parts of Valley joined to help the youth, who was injured due to live ammunition used by the government forces personnel against the protesters who took to streets in a bid to help the militants escape amid a tight cordon after a gunfight.
Sources said that as Amir needed around ten pints of O-negative blood, a rare blood group, an appeal was issued on whatsapp and other social media platforms. The appeal received a tremendous response and more than 200 people registered to donate the blood. “52 people had O-negative blood group and as youth jostled and insisted on donating the blood, we collected 22 pints,” an official at SMHS hospital told GNS. He said that “200 others were urged to donate for other needy some other day.”
When contacted Medical Superintendent Dr Nazir Choudhary said that the condition of Yawar, a resident of Mahmoodpora continues to be critical and 9 pints of blood were given to the injured.
However, he did not specify total number of pints collected after the appeal was issued.
“I am outside the hospital right now and all that I can confirm that the injured was given as many as points required by him,” he added. (GNS)
