Ludhiana police arrests eight ‘peddlers’ with poppy husk and weapons:The accused were identified as Special Police Officer (SPO) with Jammu and Kashmir police

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana (Rural) police has arrested eight drug peddlers including a policeman of Jammu and Kashmir police after it recovered seventy two kilograms of poppy husk and five pistols from them on Thursday. The accused were identified as Mohammad Rafiq of Gerad Khurd in Budgam in Kashmir who is Special Police Officer (SPO) with Jammu and Kashmir police, Sukhchain Singh of Hans Kala in Dakha, Rajbeer Singh of Rajoana Kalanin Sudhar who is Former Sarpanch, Gurmeet Singh, Harpal Singh, Joginder Singh of Burj Hari Singh, Parmodh Kumar, Jarnail Singh both of Rurhka and Jaspreet Singh of Mullanpur.

Giving details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ludhiana (Rural) Surjeet Singh said that a special campaign was launched against drug trafficking and also to crack the nexus of drug suppliers. He added that on 11 August 35 Kilograms of Poppy Husk was recovered from the accused Amninder Singh of Village Amargarh Kaler from the Lancer car having a special kind of boot built in the car and he was booked under NDPS act at Sadar police station of Jagraon. He added that during investigation the accused had disclosed that he got the Poppy Husk from Rafiq Ahmad of Kashmir.

“Yesterday Rafiq Ahmad had come to Punjab by Air to collect the money of the consignment and the same was arrested by the police. On further interrogation of the Rafiq Ahmad, 10 Kilograms Poppy Husk was also recovered from the place divulged by the accused.
He disclosed that he has been supplying the poppy husk to 10/15 persons, but he did not know the names of these persons but can identify them on seeing the persons”, said SSP Ludhiana Rural. . “On this identification parade was conducted and Red Alert was sounded in the District. During Red Alert the accused persons were arrested and recovery of poppy husk and weapons was made from them”.
