LeT militant Shamsul Viqar arrested in south Kashmir: Police

Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a militant of Hizb-ul-Mujhaideen outfit along with arms in Qazigund area of Anantnag district.

An official said that Shamsul Viqar was arrested along with a rifle in Wangam area of Qazigund near railway station.

However, sources said that Vikar had sustained a bullet injury during a gunfight in Kund yesterday. Muzamil Manzoor of Hizb ul Mujahideen and an army man were killed in the gunfight that ended last night.

They said he was arrested in an injured condition by armed police in civvies near railway station.

Viqar, a resident of Laram Ganjipora village of Anantnag district, had joined Lashkar-e-Toiba in March this year. Before joining militancy, he was a student of Delhi Public School (DPS) Sangam.

He was a known cricketer who often used to play at Cricket Stadium Anantnag. 

A photograph of Viqar shot at the stadium with an AK-47 rifle in his lap went viral on the social media last week.
