Proving his worth again with the bowl, J&K skipper Parvez Rasool took 6-wicket haul as Kerala were bundled out for 219 runs in 76 overs in their first inning on the first day of the Ranji trophy match being played at St’Xavier’s KCA Cricket Ground, Trivandrum on Wednesday.
Apart from Sanju Samson who scored 112 runs before becoming one of the victims of Parvez Rasool none of Kerala batsman was able to put up a brave front in front of J&K bowlers. Mohammad Mudhasir gave two early breakthroughs to J&K but then it was turn of spinners lead by Parvez to chip in wickets.
The hosts, who elected to bat, were off to a poor start as opener Vishnu Vinod (5) and Rohan Prem (0) departed in quick succession. The in-form Jalaj Saxena (22) too fell rather cheaply as Kerala slipped to 44/3.
Sanju found an able partner in captain Sachin Baby and the duo added 47 for the fourth wicket. Off-spinner Parvez Rasool broke the stand by trapping Sachin (19) in front of the wicket.
Sanju and KB Arun Karthick added 79 runs for the fifth wicket. However, Kerala suffered a double blow when Karthick (35) and Salman Nizar (0) fell with the total on 170.
Parvez completed his five wicket haul in 76 over by getting wicket of Basil Thampi and then in same over got his sixth and bundling out Keral inning.
In his 26 overs , Parvez gave away 70 runs and took six wickets while as Amir Aziz took two wickets in his 29 overs. Mohammad Mudhasir also took two wickets for J&K.
