Imam Ul Haq calls journalist Fazeela Saba ‘aunty’, Twitter still recovering from pun

New Delhi: In the third ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi on October 18, Imam Ul Haq made his debut as an opener for Pakistan. The 21-year-old batsman ‘with glasses’ scored a century on his debut, which helped Pakistan secure the match and also the series.

Pakistan later went on to romp Sri Lanka 5-0, their sixth white-wash ever.

A century on debut became all the more special for Imam, as he became only the second Pakistani to do so and 13th overall. His performance on debut also got him a place in the next two ODIs.

All this performance also led to immediate fame and a new fan club emerged for the youngster. Among them included Pakistani journalist Fazeela Saba – who is a leading sports anchor, writer and analyst with PTV Sports.

Congratulating the young lad, Fazeela Saba took to Twitter and wrote: “Century on debut what an achievement Imam ul Haq”

After the ‘aunty’ reaction went viral all over, Fazeela made a post which was a great comeback for such a pun by Imam.

“Undoubtedly the hero of the series our very own @ImamUlHaq12 congrats from your aunty,” said the journalist in a tweet.

Later, Imam went on to say that after he slammed a ton on debut, he was swarmed with phone calls and messages from female fans.

“After I scored the century I received calls and messages of congratulations from around 300-400 female fans. My social media was [flooded]. Finally, I switched off my mobile internet,” Imam told it to Geo News.

“I hadn’t even imagined scoring a century on debut. I’m happy I could be of use to the team. I’m thankful to all my fans for their encouragement,” Imam added.

Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan is in see-saw position as the Lankans whitewashed them in Test series while payback was immediate in 5-match ODI series. Now, they are on to three-matches T20I series which will decide who dominated whom in the battle of sub-continental teams.
