​Snake comes out from water pipe at Lolab; protests erupt against PHE

Srinagar, September 12 (GNS): A snake today came out from a water pipe during drinking water distribution at Lolab area of Kupwara, triggering protests.
According to news agency Global News Service (GNS), the locals, mostly women, were waiting to collect drinking water from PHE pump shed at Gori Mohalla in Tikipora Lolab today. The residents said that the pump shed is defunct and the PHE first supply water to it manually and then is distributed among locals.
“Initially, the water foam came out of the pipe when the distribution began and shortly a snake made its way out which resulted in panic and chaos and people ran towards safer places,” the locals said, adding that the incident triggered protests against the PHE. They said that the pump shed lacks cleanliness and hygiene and it has been brought into the notice of the concerned several times but no action was taken.
The locals further said that due to poor hygiene and impure water, the children of the area fall ill and cases of jaundice have surfaced. They demanded that the PHE should take note of the situation and act before any life is lost due to impure water supply. The locals also threatened protests if no action is taken with regard to the pump shed and pure water supply. (GNS)
